Description

In the spring of 1919, Walter Gropius published a manifesto in which he declared “there is no essential difference between the artist and the artisan.” At the time, this was a revolutionary idea—one which gave birth to the Bauhaus Art School. Over the years, he and his acolytes sought to tear down the wall between fine and applied arts. Members of the movement created chairs and buildings that were as much an artistic expression as their paintings and sculptures. Along with this philosophical shift, they also introduced an iconic and specific aesthetic that is still recognizable today.

Blackwing’s Volume 155 is a tribute to this idea and the movement that was born from it. The pencil features a soft graphite core, black eraser clip, and a design that was inspired by the iconic simple shapes and colors of the Bauhaus style. 155 is the number of students that graduated from the school. Replacement erasers are available in a variety of colors. Each sturdy and beautifully designed box includes one dozen pencils.
